KOIN and Active Path OCD Interview - Active Path Mental Health in OR and WA

Take our online depression self-assessment

Active Path’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Pritham Raj, joined KOIN AM Extra to discuss obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), common misconceptions, and TMS as a breakthrough treatment.

Dr. Raj characterizes OCD as a mental health disorder that can consume someone’s life, including a series of obsessions that can be intrusive, unwanted and often seen as irrational urges paired with compulsions to act on these obsessions. Compulsions occur often at the detriment of someone’s life and ability to function in day-to-day life. This categorization is what constitutes a disorder and not just having tendencies towards something.

With OCD affecting two to three percent of the population, roughly one in 40 people, effective treatment has the ability to create a large impact. Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) offers a solution for those with OCD.  Similar to how Active Path treats major depressive disorder, the treatment uses magnetic pulses to target the part of the brain responsible for breaking the cycle of OCD.
